Hard Times - Eastmountainsouth
(You may have to click to watch this video on YouTube, as half the time I am restricted from view. I am curious as to which version you prefer...Eastmountainsouth, or James Taylor/Yo-Yo Ma.)
let us pause in life's pleasures and count its many tears
while we all sup sorrow with the poor
there's a song that will linger forever in our ears
oh, hard times come again no more
'tis a song a sigh of the weary
hard times hard times come again no more
many days you have lingered around my cabin door
oh hard times come again no more
while we seek mirth and beauty
and music light and gay
there are frail ones fainting at the door
though their voices are silent
their pleading looks will say
oh, hard times come again no more
'tis a song a sigh of the weary
hard times... hard times come again no more
many days you have lingered around my cabin door
oh, hard times come again no more
'tis a sigh that is wafted across the troubled wave
'tis a wail that is heard upon the shore
'tis a dirge that is murmured around the lowly grave
oh, hard times come again no more
'tis a song ¦a sigh of the weary
hard times hard times come again no more
many days you have lingered around my cabin door
oh, hard times come again no more
oh, hard times come again no more

I like the first version. It almost sings like a soft hymn, no? Sending love, joy, hugs and peace your way.
ReplyDeleteI sing with you, loud and off-key, but I'm holding your hand and we're smiling... XOXO
"And the night shall be filled with music,
And the cares that infest the day
Shall fold their tents like the Arabs
And as silently steal away.
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, 'The Day Is Done'
"She who sings scares away her woes." ~Cervantes
I prefer EastMountainSouth's version of this song. Both are beautiful, but both to the singers in EMS have such haunting lyrical voices that they were meant to sing this.
